The Induction — an onboarding with a spine

Concept overhaul of the Illustrious Harness first-run for Next (ASTRA 0.2) and Fable (0.3-alpha), benchmarked frame-by-frame against the Grokbot demo. Grokbot onboards a widget; the harness onboards a governed workforce.

Grokbot vs. The Induction

Both films preloaded and playing. Tap to pause.

GROKBOT — as demoed108s source · chat-first
▶ tap to pause
What it shows: avatar ignition → connector grid → first chat → bot creation → screen-share. Friendly, fast — one bot, no roles, no ceilings, no receipts.
ILLUSTRIOUS — The Induction (concept)54s · governance-first
▶ tap to pause
What it proposes: the same warmth, folded into a governed induction — autonomy ladder signed first, roster with sealed capability cards, quest vessels, host heartbeat, receipts throughout.
ILLUSTRIOUS — The Induction, Ivory (Fable)54s · editorial
▶ tap to pause
Fable edition: lit lamp, wax-sealed contract, illuminated tiles, candle-lit pendulum at 0.82 Hz, broadsheet receipt — the same spine in calm ivory.

02 · The six beats

The flow, beat by beat

One spine across both editions; Liquid Spine canvas in Next, Ink & Scroll chrome in Fable.

BEAT 1

Ignition — the harness wakes

0:00–0:09

Obsidian canvas. One particle vessel ignites and settles into a clean 0.82 Hz oscillation — the harness heartbeat. One line beneath: "Twelve of you are about to work together." Nothing else moves yet.

Doherty — canvas <0.4s, skeleton firstAesthetic-usability — polish reads as competenceSerial position — beat 1 anchors the arc
BEAT 2

The Contract — limits first, always

0:09–0:18

Before any agent is named, Cris signs the four-rung autonomy ladder (HL-07). Sealing it mints the first receipt. Grokbot hides guardrails behind preferences — the harness puts them on stage.

AUT-0Observe — watches, reports, proposes nothing
AUT-1Draft — writes proposals you review
AUT-2Write to canon — files to the registry, cited
AUT-3Act in the world — forbidden without written owner approval, per tenant, per agent
BEAT 3

The Roster — twelve seats, one take

0:18–0:27

Six reactors, four monitors, two hosts — revealed one at a time: particle sigil forms, capability card unrolls. Whole tile is the tap target (Fitts). Never a wall of names.

BEAT 4

First Quest — A-52 issues your first canon

0:27–0:36

The onboarding cell (A-52 P0W3RQU3ST) delivers four quest vessels — your rulings become the tenant's first canon. Each seals with a receipt; they arrive half-sealed (endowed progress).

BEAT 5

Host binding — the 0.82 Hz handshake

0:36–0:45

The always-on host binds with a live receipt: heartbeat locked, route served, reserve named. Hardware gets a seat only when it runs a lane (HL-02).

On screen

  • Host card: A-53 C0RT3X — AceMagic mini-PC, nightly seat
  • Reserve: A-54 MacBook — mobile deck + reserve lane
  • Heartbeat 0.82 Hz, measured live

BEAT 6

Deck reveal — your receipt of standing

Everything sealed lands on one deck — then the harness asks for the first goal. One field. The ending is the hand-off.

03 · Fable Edition variant

The Induction, Ivory

Fable keeps every beat but renders in calm ivory — wax seals instead of particles, editorial instead of console.

Same spine, different skin

Ignition becomes a lit lamp; the Contract a wax-sealed ladder; the Roster unrolls as illuminated manuscript tiles; quest vessels are wax-sealed scroll cases; host binding a candle-lit pendulum; the Deck reveal a broadsheet front page that prints your receipt of standing.

018 · Ink & Scroll — manuscript skin 006 · Ledger Brief — receipt as printable broadsheet 002 · Ivory Brief — first-run editorial lineage

Everything on this page, downloadable

Next (ASTRA 0.2)

  • Liquid Spine canvas hosts the beats — ILLUSTRIOUS_STATE drives motion, no timers
  • Contract + Roster — registry snapshot rows render as tiles
  • Quest + Host — quest engine stubs; host receipt from hardware probe

Fable 0.3-alpha

  • Same beats, ivory skin — Ink & Scroll chrome, wax-seal affordances
  • Starter workflow slot — quest vessels replace the placeholder

Shared

  • Receipts everywhere — every seal emits a gate-event row
  • Phone parity — beats compress to the phone-oversight layout
